Cherry Blossoms, Friday Night Sew-cials, and ....

photo 1 When we lived in Virginia Beach, every year I said that I wanted to see the Cherry Blossoms in DC.  But we never went. And then we moved to Oregon. And now we're back. So we went last weekend...  Unfortunately, we've had a rather cold winter, so the cherry blossoms were still tightly in their buds.  I did get some cute photos, though.  The one above is my favorite.  Finn's at the age where he's still proud of himself when he gets into his stride.  Look at him...  I think the world's his oyster.  But I'm his mommy. :)  Anyway, I made his pants for Easter.   I intended to get photos of us to post (all of our outfits were homemade except for daddy's), but it rained, and my hair was flat, so that was that.  I used the Banyan pants by Figgy's Patterns- I love this pattern.  I made two pair of shorts for Cassidy with the same pattern.  I cannot say enough about how awesome it is to have one pattern that will service both my daughter and my son (there's a tee shirt and tunic included too).

Mermaid Shirt or Tunic

I made this shirt for Cassidy during the Friday Night Sew-cial last Friday.  Anna of Hoot'n Haller was also here (hooray!).  NEOBK-751462She told me,  "I want a pink mermaid shirt!"  I agree.  I made this using my favorite Japanese sewing book (rough translation: Girls Love Fashionable Clothes), and  I bought the fabric at a great shop in Portland called Cool Cottons.  It's a gorgeous double gauze by Trefle for Kokka.  I barely had enough, but I was able to squeeze it into a one-yard cut. I've made this shirt before, and it's one of my favorites.  Cassidy likes it as much as I do, so that's alway a recipe for bliss.  See my dress below?  I made that from another Japanese pattern book as well.  Stay tuned for a class on Japanese sewing patterns!

Friday Night Sew-cials:

We have 2 spots left for this Friday!!  Boy, oh, boy is this Friday filling up fast.  Let me know (email is on this page to the right) if you want to come. Also, due to how popular this event has been, I'll be having another "sew-cial" on April 19th.  That will be the last one in April (we'll have more in May).

We had a great time last week!  Here's a photo of Anna and her mom, Donna, who were glad to have their first chance to sew together (on Anna's 25th birthday, to boot!).  Thanks, Anna, for including the Finch in this special moment.

Anna and Donna - a quilt binding and 2 totes to show for!
