Whenever I find something particularly delightful, my husband will laughingly say, "let me guess... you like that because it reminds you of your childhood?!" It's true. My childhood was idyllic. I lived on the water, in the woods (the Olympic Rainforest, to be exact), in the Pacific Northwest. We fished, we crabbed, we hunted mushrooms and berries. My sister and I were busy, happy, summer creatures. And now, each time my kids and I find an interesting butterfly or walk the long stretch of a beach to find the perfect shell or fill up a bucket with bright red strawberries, I find myself blissfully reliving those gorgeous summer moments from my own childhood. Enter Heather Ross.... It's a toss up for me who I like better as a fabric desiger, Nani Iro or Heather Ross, but one thing is for sure. Heather Ross must have had a similarly perfect childhood. Her prints are profoundly nostalgic for me, so perfectly matched to my own childhood experience that I feel as if I know each print, like they were always there. Now, Heather and I are not BFFs.... yet... (Heather, are you listening?... ), but I think I'd love to go tromping through the marsh with her.
So it goes without saying that it was a dream come true to be ordering bolts of Heather Ross fabric. Finch Sewing Studio will carry her new line of quilting weight cotton (great for apparel and other projects too) as well as her new jersey knits (squeal!!). Check them out in the shop right here. They are available for preorder now, and they'll be shipping to us the first week of July. Wanna' see them in person? Well, come on then!
I included these photos of me and the kiddos at the strawberry patch- the whole experience reminded me so much of this line of fabric. Vibrant, sweet, and delightful in its simplicity- summer-ness in all it's childhood glory.
