This week is a big week in the fabric and sewing community. It is the international spring quilt market (trade show) where so many of us will be meeting in Pittsburg to see all the pretty new fabric and sewing supplies. This is Finch's first time, though, which makes it extra specially exciting (and overwhelming!). Angela, Anna, and I (Nicole) had a sewing day together about a week ago so that we could make clothes and accessories for the market. April Rhodes, the pattern designer of the Staple Dress, Date Night Dress, and the Riding Peplum (and Party Dress), was so sweet to offer to send me some fabric from her new line (which we pre-ordered long ago!!!), and of course I jumped, and squeeled, and graciously accepted (hee hee).
Doesn't she look like a sweet person? Well, she is. I'm really excited to meet her. And I think that's at least half the fun of quilt market. So much of the quilting/sewing/DIY world is online, living in a social media driven virtual community (which is great), so it's really wonderful to get to meet some of these people in person. Anyway, back to the fabric...
Arizona is April's first line of fabric, and I think it's a solid home run. But I'm a little biased.
This photo is of my great grandma, Bess Lindstedt. I have many great photos of her adventures, but this one was always my favorite. As a teenager, I had this photo in my bedroom because this woman who took her own trip, on a mule, to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, was my teen idol. To me, she possessed the chutzpah, independence, and zest for life that I aspired to have and hope to always have. And I think growing up on the West Coast also made me fiercely independent. We visited the Grand Canyon and Arizona many times during my growing up years, and it's my dream to take my kids on a hike to the bottom of the Canyon someday.
It's not just an aesthetically PERFECT match to my personal style, it's in my soul. So, obviously, I ordered the whole line.
I've been hoarding this leather for some time now, and I thought it was perfect for this little clutch bag and a my new tote bag. I love the arrows....
The color way is perfect too. A little aqua, a little navy, and plenty of gold and peach. The line is one of Art Gallery Fabric's limited edition lines and is set to be in our store at the end of the month. We have it available for Presale here. Once it's gone, it's gone.
And April's peplum pattern is too perfect for this peach print. The hubs thinks it looks a little vintage- like I'm on my way to a sock hop. :) I was thinking it would be fun to do a little give away... What do you think?! One lucking person will receive a fat quarter bundle of this line. Here's how you win:
