Here at Finch, we're pretty crafty, but we're learning right along with you. And really, we just love to learn new things! Many of our staff regularly take classes, and of course we have lots of opportunity to learn from each other. Each year we like to look back and remember the fun things we've learned....
Charmaine: I learned a foolproof method to hemming necklines (by following the Willow Tank pattern).
Alex: I learned that a walking foot is essential for sewing knits…
Nicole: I learned how to steek and trap floats in color work!
Angela: I learned how to do Alabama Chanin reverse applique.
Haley: I learned to be confident and try new things! My newest thing (that has always really intimidated me) is quilting!
Samantha: I learned how to free-motion quilt in Aubrie's class at Finch, and I love it! I'm very excited to experiment with more of that this coming year (on my new Bernina 765!).
Emily: I've learned a lot of new knit stitches, like the bobble, linen, and the wicker stitch, thanks to the knit along Brenna Cowl pattern. It has definitely increased both my confidence and ability as a knitter!
Nancy: I learned to be mindful when I am knitting or sewing. To enjoy each stitch as it slips off my needles, to embrace each seam as it slides through my machine, to be fully present while creating.
Randi: I learned just how much inspiration Finch Sewing Studio has to offer just by walking through the door! Between the teachers, staff, and customers, you always walk away with an idea for your next project that you can't wait to start.
Loralee: This year I have learned how to read knitting patterns which enabled me to knit my first sweater!
Isabelle: In 2016 I learned how to use the embroidery unit on my 790 and I love it. I really enjoy the variety of materials you can embroider on like canvas, linen, and leather!
Tell us what you learned this year... and maybe what you'd like to learn in 2017!
