Service Description

Level: Curious folks who aren't afraid to try new things! Immerse yourself in the rich history and captivating culture of Selbu as you learn the art of knitting Selbu Norwegian mittens in this engaging in-person class. We will explore the fascinating origins and traditional motifs of Selbu knitting, while focusing on achieving perfect tension in colorwork and mastering intricate designs. Our experienced instructor (NICOLE) will guide you through the construction process, covering essential techniques such as shaping, thumb gusset, and cuff styles. You will have the option to choose from pre-determined designs or delve deep into the cultural references and create your own unique combination of motifs and cuff styles. Throughout the class, we will celebrate the cultural significance of Selbu knitting (be prepared for Norwegian cookies and strong coffee ;)) and the amazing stories behind the patterns and people of Selbu. By the end of the course, you will create a beautiful pair of Selbu Norwegian mittens that showcase your newfound colorwork skills and honor the rich heritage of this knitting tradition. Supplies - ALL available at FINCH*: Norwegian Yarn (Rauma Garne, fingering weight 3-5 different colors) Double-pointed Knitting Needles (we will address gauge on day one) Colored Stitch Markers Tapestry Needle Selbu pattern options (the book will be available) Project Bag for yarn management (the Cocoknits mesh bag is perfect) Skills covered in class: Tension and Dominance in Colorwork Selbu designs and their significance Shaping and thumb gusset construction Exploring various cuff styles and motifs *10% discount for all class supplies purchased in store. CLASS + EVENT POLICIES (In-person and Online)* • Full payment is due upon signing up for a class, whether in-person or online. If you prefer to pay by cash or check, the spot is not held until payment has been made. • 100% of class fees are refundable or transferable to another class if cancellation is made at least 72 hours before the class, whether in-person or online. • There is NO REFUND or TRANSFER to another class if upon cancellation LESS THAN 72 HOURS OF NOTICE IS GIVEN before the start date of the class, whether in-person or online. Sorry, we are unable to make exceptions.
